Abstract

Distress syndrome acts as a trigger for the development of intrapleural complications, which may aggravate the course of the disease and in some cases cause a lethal outcome in patients with COVID-19 associated pneumonia. Two cases of spontaneous pneumomediastinum, spontaneous pneumopericardium, spontaneous pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema were analyzed. Severe diffuse alveolar damage associated with the new coronavirus infection has been found to play the leading role in the development of pleural complications.
