We examined 40 patients with traumatic mandibular osteomyelitis and 34 apparently healthy people. In each case, clinical and laboratory signs of chronic endogenous intoxication were found. We tested a new set of procedures for screening and diagnosis of chronic endogenous intoxication. Our findings show that these procedures hold potential as a useful tool for detecting patients with an overall poor prognosis of the disease. These patients need a more thorough examination to determine the severity of endotoxicosis, identify secondary immune deficiency and to select the most appropriate treatment option.
