The Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 showed it is possible to prevent mass epidemics during large-scale wars for the first time in the history of mankind. The experience gained during the Battle of Stalingrad was of critical importance for that. Combined efforts of military and civilian health care made it possible to prevent epidemics of cholera, typhus and tularemia in the army and in the rear. Vast antiepidemic experience had been accumulated in the territory of Stalingrad and Stalingrad region which was used in health care provision during subsequent large military operations.
