The study performed in Volgograd established that individuals who presented with complaints about their leg shape had a stigmatization experience, felt frustrated, fearful of discrimination, and were poorly socially adapted. They developed all these problems in their adolescent years. As a treatment outcome most patients expected social and psychological re-adaptation. A mere surgical improvement of the leg shape is a necessary but insufficient condition for the development of a positive attitude to treatment in people with leg deformities.
