Pathomorphological characteristics of male and female hippocampus in the elderly in early stages of cerebral atherosclerosis

Abstract

We performed an analysis of pathological changes in the hippocampus in elderly male and female people. Our findings showed that all the dead had abnormality of cerebral blood vessels. Changes in the middle cerebral arteries in the form of adipose deposit and atheromatous plaque with luminal stenosis of less than 30 %, were noted. Microscopic examination showed marked changes in the CA1 and CA3 regions.
